The birthplace of coffee and the place I proudly call home. Kolfe, the neighborhood where I grew up, inspired the name of this business. In Ethiopian culture, coffee is more than a beverage. It is a symbol of connection, community, and hospitality.
Coffee brings people together during life's most meaningful moments. We gather around coffee to celebrate achievements, welcome guests, strengthen friendships, make peace after disagreements, and support one another during difficult times. It is present in our happiest days and our hardest days. It is how stories are shared, relationships are built, and communities are strengthened.
When I moved to the United States, I left behind my family, my community, and everything familiar. Like many immigrants, I arrived carrying dreams, determination, and hope for a better future. Building Kolfe Coffee became a way to honor my roots while creating something meaningful in my new home.
Every event we serve, every customer we meet, and every cup we pour becomes part of that journey. Each gathering adds a new chapter to a story that began thousands of miles away and continues to grow with every connection we make.
One day, when I am reunited with my family, especially my children, I will tell them about this journey. I will tell them about the people who believed in me, the communities that welcomed me, the customers who supported my dream, and the moments that helped build Kolfe Coffee from an idea into something real.
